Pumpkins

Autumn, 

And the pumpkins begin to gather 

On paths and porches, 

In windows and in doorways, 

 Sometimes accompanied 

By gourds, or stalks of corn, 

Their robust, rotund fertility 

Stark contrast to the skeletons 

Of plants and humans 

Hovering nearby…
