Ignited from within

Ignited from within
By a light from above
We bring what hope and color we can
Into a world starved for Spring.

Welcome the unexpected

Welcome the unexpected visitors —
The changes and events, the guests and fears
We’re never quite prepared for —
For what they have to teach
Might be something we need to learn...

The well of joy

Planted deep within each heart
There lives a well of joy:
Tap into it, and let the waves
Of light and love wash over you
And fill you with delight.

As Lent begins

And so it begins again —
The blossoming, the bloom, the fruit,
The loss, the letting go;
Pink flowers that soon blanket the earth
With tears...
And what shall I take on or release?
What discipline will best inspire
Growth, and what direction am I called to pursue?

The music of Spring

Spring, and the laughing daffodils
Leap out from behind the rock,
Dancing and waving their golden trumpets
In a symphony of delight.

Retreat may not be the answer

Always battling within us,
The madman and the saint;
Driving us further and further away,
Convincing us we are damaged, and struggle alone,
When the only true cure
is not the isolation we choose,
But rather the sense of connection we shun.

Waiting with patience

There are days when all love asks of us
Is to wait with patience and breathe...

Waiting for change

When the wait for change
Seems to go on forever
It’s easy to lose your head in harsh imaginings
Of all the possible outcomes
We’re unable to control;
Harder by far to lean into the present
And stay grounded...

Give voice to color

Don’t be afraid
To give voice to the colors inside you!

Cocoon

We build them ourselves, these gray cocoons,
Where we might safely hide and grow new wings,
Spoon-feed each other color in the dark
Until the walls grow thin and the urge
To peck and scrape our way into the light
Becomes too strong and presses us
To leave, unfurl our wings, and fly away,
Leaving that safe gray life behind.

Pondering the lessons of the day

Make some time today to rest and ponder:
True wisdom is more likely to emerge
When we ruminate in silence
On the blessings and the lessons of the day.

Trust and stay the course

Though the winds of change have filled our sails,
I worry that the light is growing dim
And we’ve still miles to go before
We reach our destination.
When will I learn to trust
That where I am is where I’m meant to be;
To stay the course and revel in
The beauty that is Now?

There will always be light

However entangled our thoughts may become
In the concerns and tribulations of the world,
We need to remember that however dark
Things look, there is always some light.

Live a luminous life

Watching the dying tulip
As her petals turn to flame
We feel an echo deep within:
A heart that aches to burn; with luck
That inner light glows brighter as we age,
Consuming muscle, leaving in its place
The luminous incandescence
Of a life well lived.

Divine beauty

Through the lacy ruff of trees,
The long white neck of the sea
Gleams bright against
the dark gown of the clouds,
The shore an onyx necklace at her throat.
And seeing this, who could deny
Her beauty is divine?

In gratitude

Our hearts expand in gratitude
for all who’ve sailed beside us on this journey,
The parents, teachers, citizens and friends
Who guide, support, and protect us
So that we might safely reach the farthest shore.

With love as the wind in our sails

The mountains and the sea remind us:
Love is far more infinite than we imagine —
Higher, deeper, and more inclusive
Than one heart can comprehend.
With love as the the wind in our sails,
We can accomplish whatever we hope to achieve.

Showing the love

Love, like beauty,
comes in all shapes and guises,
But — however perfect or imperfect —
Always seems to make the day
A little brighter; a little sweeter.
How will you show the love today?

Reflecting the light

What face do you present to the world?
Are you showing your true thoughts
Or just reflecting what surrounds you?
What honest response might you share today?
How might you best reflect back the light?

If you could tell the world

Imagine that for one brief moment
You have center stage,
and here’s your chance to tell the world
one thing they need to hear.
What would it be? What would you say?

Divine outreach

That spirit for which we hunger and reach out
Hungers for us, and reaches out in turn:
A Divine outpouring of love and light
Spilling over into the darkest of times and souls.

Welcome both rain and sun

All nature welcomes both rain and sun
With open arms; may we learn to do the same...

The tide will rise again

However disheartened we may be,
By the confusion, misinformation, and division,
We have to trust that the tide will rise again
And sweep it all away;
That trust and honesty will once again prevail.

The long road ahead

The road ahead is long, our hope has dimmed,
The destination now obscured by fog,
And still we trust the silence and the path
To lead us to the light for which we hunger.

Hold up the light

Some days you just gotta sit there
And take it all in.
The arc of history bends where it will;
Our job is to keep finding the light
And holding it up so others may find
Their way through the dark...

Look before leaping

When standing this close to the edge,
It’s important to stay very conscious
Of the ground beneath your feet.
However enchanted you may be
By your view of the distant future,
You’ll want to be sure that your next step
Is a well-thought-out leap
And not a crippling fall...

All is cherished in light

Rejoice in those days
When the sun comes out and reminds us
That everyone and everything —
Even the humblest of structures and humans —
Is created, is worthy, is cherished in light.

Seeking balance

Like the tree that reaches out,
Hoping to touch and drink what lies beneath,
We long to find connection
even as we struggle to remain
Upright and self-sufficient; not dependent:
The struggle that accompanies each relationship—
Even the one we share with the universal Divine.

Just beyond the clouds

Yes, there is a new beginning;
The sun has risen, a new dawn,
Waiting just beyond the clouds.
Relax: the wind will soon
Blow them all away.
Relax, breathe deep, and focus
On the waves of possibility.
