Slow morning

My phone can’t do it justice,
 But the morning moon,
Washed orange by the rising of the sun,
 Sinks down below the mountains
(Those distant islands in the sea),
Moving as slowly as the elderly raccoon
Who crawls up onto my deck,
Dragging his injured foot,
Braving the cats in hopes I’ll throw
Some peanuts in the grass for him to eat.
