Brief celebrity

The amaranthine campion blossoms, 

Gleaming unexpectedly in the afternoon sun 

Call out from across the broad expanse of lawn, 

And I creep closer, like paparazzi 

 Hoping to catch them drinking 

Or maybe dancing in the light 

Before their evanescent celebrity fades.
