Fallen

Like love, from that single stem,
Her speckled skirts spread far and wide
And glittered with reminders,
Not just of tears and rain, but a life well-lived;
Of hearts broken open and scarred;
Of darkness, and the warmth of flames and sun;
Of the mix of sorrow and rejoicing
That accompanies each one of us until
We fall back to the ground
From which we’ve sprung.
