Trust, but verify

Many of us, having gone through life 

With all its ups and downs, 

Develop trust issues. Like the deer,

We’ve learned that trusting eye contact 

Will encourage generosity and good behavior, 

But still we maintain a certain independence: 

Knowing that hope won’t always bear fruit.
