Respecting the spark

I believe there's a divine spark
that animates every one of us
as well as all creation.
My guess is we will never heal
the gaps that lie between us --
between nations, generations, or religions;
between left and right, rich and poor,
old and young, or male and female --
until we learn to respect that spark:
to condemn actions instead of people;
to object to and resist choices
without insulting their perpetrators.
