for the faintest sign of danger,
always hoarding
like an ego,
easily threatened,
fiercely protective,
quick to raise
sharp claws in self-defense.
When and where
will any of us
feel safe enough to trust
that those with whom we share this garden
pose us no threat;
that if we only take
enough,
there'll be enough
for all?
